2019 Wittmann 100 Hills Riesling Dry

We haven't enjoyed a wine from Wittman Wein since early last year as part of my deeper exploration of German wine, which began last year. At the end of January, we enjoyed a great dry riesling from this winery - the 2018 Wittmann 100 Hills Riesling Dry bottled by Wittmann Wein. Today, we return to Westhofen for the 2019 vintage of the same wine:

This wine is 100% riesling produced from about 40% estate-harvested fruit, with the remainder sourced from other local growers who are certified organic by the European Union. It comes in at 11.5% ABV.

The wine showed a straw color. Pear, lemon candy, peach and hints of melon all arrived on the nose. Pear, lemon, apple, peach, melon and hints of tangerine followed on the palate where the citrus became more prevalent as the wine opened up. The wine exhibited good acidity and balance. It was light-bodied and demonstrated good length. This wine would do well as an aperitif on a warm afternoon. It would also pair well with pan roasted monk fish.
